"I'm late all the time. I have no perception of time. Time is for white people. It doesn't work with me." Erykah Badu, African-American singer-songwriter
African-American songstress Erykah Badu made the above statement in the new issue of Blender magazine. While I do believe it's true that blacks have no concept of time (unable to show up for work, confusion about when slavery really started, not able to calculate the nine months following sexual intercourse to determine which child they fathered, etc.); the comment is still racist. Blacks get away with saying alot of racist things about whites.
Why is that?
I'm reminded of my post of a few days ago concerning Eddie Murphy's 5oth b-day. I posted a very funny clip of him making fun of his mom's "welfare-green pepper-burger".
Unforunately, Eddie commented, at the end, about white people being unable to dance. It seems to be a pretty safe remark; blacks have been commenting on white inabilities for some time. The problem was that he compared it to saying, "Blacks have big lips". Actually, saying that whites have white skin or small lips would be like saying that blacks have big lips. If I say that white people can't dance, that's more like saying blacks can't type. You see, in one instance we are talking about physical characteristics that, short of plastic surgery, are beyond our control. The other is talking about skill sets that anyone should be able to master. Saying that whites can't dance is more like saying that blacks can't reason, think analytically, or any number of things we are aware of them not being able to do, but can't mention because it's not politically correct.
